Speaker's Series
The speaker's series is one of the hallmarks of the SoTL program at IUB. Each year we host SoTL scholars both internal to IUB and nationally renowned SoTL scholars in 90 minute active key-note sessions. Past speakers have included Peter Felton, Jay Howard, Linda Nilson, & Robert Talbert speaking on topics such as using students in SoTL research, engaging class discussion, self-regulated learning, and flipped learning.
Faculty Learning Communities
Each year, the CITL offers 3 Faculty learning communities or FLCs on a variety of topics. These FLCs run for the academic year and are composed of a small group of interdisciplinary faculty members exploring a topic of shared interest. The FLC topics for each year are announced in the spring of the previous year. Frequently there will be a topic that is SoTL specific or topics that allow for SoTL work on the topical content.

If you are looking to engage in reading discussions with faculty, but do not want the commitment of a reading group, consider joining a session of the SoTL journal club. Each month a journal article is chosen around teaching & learning. All faculty are invited to read the article and then meet to discuss the article. Article choices can be found on our social media sites and weekly CITL newsletter. Read them all or only those that are interesting to you.
Workshops
Workshops are the hands-on way to learn how to do some aspect of SoTL. Workshops may range from a 60 minute informal brownbag to a multi-day institute. More frequently these are 90 minute sessions on a targeted topic related to SoTL work. They may include topics related to research methodology, developing a SoTL question, or collaborating with others in this work.

There are a number of ways that you can connect individually with others in the SoTL network.
The SoTL director is available for individual consultations about SoTL projects year-round. If you would like to talk more about a project or potential project, become connected with other faculty involved in SoTL, or learn more about our programs
SoTL spotlights are short videos showcasing the personal trajectory of faculty members engaged in SoTL on campus. Rather than focusing on the topic of their research, these spotlights explore how the faculty member became involved in SoTL, the professional development activities and resources they engaged with along the way, and where they are now in their work.
The SoTL advisory board is composed of 14 faculty members, the SoTL director, and the CITL director. Board representation consists of multiple disciplines, a range of experience with SoTL, tenure-track, and non-tenure track faculty. The advisory board meets once per semester for a programmatic update and participates in special projects as needed. Recent projects have included conducting a user analysis of the website and drafting a statement about evaluating SoTL.
