Coffee Talks: Equity on Trend, Hot Topics in Higher Education

Join Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) Faculty Fellow Eric Sader of the Kelley School of Business Department of Business Law & Ethics for an informal participatory discussion on what’s new and what’s controversial in higher education today.  Whether you find yourself in Camp “Learning Collective” or Camp “Stressed Professors” (a nod to current debate in the Facebook world), this Coffee Talk series welcomes your input.

Each Talk will examine trending disagreements and/or new insights specific to issues of classroom pedagogy as it pertains to matters relevant to DEIJ.  Topics will be pulled from items making news and social media within the prior 30 days.  Leads are appreciated and can be contributed throughout Spring 2021 via this form.

A new ethical decision-making model will set the table each Talk to help facilitate dialogue on topics that can reasonably prompt impassioned thoughts and advocacy.  Prepare for bite-sized tapas more than a singular focus, as the intention is to cover several topics each Talk.  Come hungry to learn from others’ perspectives with a goal of greater shared understanding.

Participants are welcome to attend one or all of the Spring 2021 Talks.  No advance preparation is required or expected.  All levels of expertise are invited so long as discussions are approached with a goal of DEIJ with enhanced respect and space for marginalized voices.  Related resources will be shared during and/or after Talks, as well as follow-up consultation offered.
