As Distance Learning Specialist, Maggie focuses primarily on online synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid courses. She is dedicated to increasing student belonging and engagement in these settings, which she recognizes can often feel particularly isolated for students and instructors alike. Maggie is also the Quality Matters Coordinator for the IU Bloomington campus and is happy to work with faculty looking for evidence-based online course design practices.
In addition to her work in distance education, Maggie has experience working with departments and programs on generative AI, and she is committed to helping instructors navigate the use of these tools in their classrooms in ways that promote critical thinking and digital literacy while helping students use AI ethically. She co-designed the
GenAI in the Classroom Canvas modules with her colleague, Eric Brinkman, and regularly works with faculty to address the use of GenAI in their unique contexts.
Maggie earned her M.A. in English from Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, Canada and is currently completing her dissertation in the English Department at IU Bloomington where she taught composition, professional writing, and literature courses as an Associate Instructor and then Teaching Fellow from 2017-2023. Prior to joining the CITL in September 2024, Maggie worked as an Instructional Technology Consultant at IU Indianapolis where she regularly worked with instructors to implement instructional technologies in their classrooms in ways that supported their course learning objectives.
