Thanks for stopping by my profile page! I'm Layli Miron (LAY-lee Mee-ROAN, she/her), a writer, educator, and researcher. At the Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL), my role is to support writing across the curriculum. If you teach at Indiana University Bloomington in any capacity, I'd love to talk with you about how you can design and assess writing and multimedia activities to advance your students' thinking and communication. I can also facilitate workshops for your department or group on topics such as teaching writing in the AI era, giving efficient and effective feedback, guiding students to read mindfully, and more. You can learn about the programs I offer on the Campus Writing Program webpage and on the CITL blog. If you have a request or you'd like to get on my mailing list to hear about upcoming opportunities, please .
I've been teaching in various capacities since I was an undergraduate tutor at Mount Holyoke College's writing center. That experience ignited my interest in the field of composition and rhetoric, in which I earned a PhD from Penn State. During grad school, I taught first-year composition and technical writing, and I developed programs and tutored at Penn State's Graduate Writing Center. I then worked for University Writing, Auburn University's program for writing across the curriculum, where I taught peer writing consultants and developed initiatives so the writing center could better meet students' needs. In 2024, I joined the CITL. Here, I'm translating my years of student-facing work into the realm of faculty development.
As an educator and facilitator, I aim to create spaces where every participant can investigate meaningful questions and where we can learn from each other. I also recognize that I can always do better, that each learner is unique, and that needs in higher education are always evolving. These realities keep teaching fresh and fascinating for me! To see some examples of my teaching work, I invite you to peruse the curricula I developed at Auburn. Lessons cover digital literacy, intercultural communication, writing in the disciplines, accessibility, and more. You are welcome to adapt these open educational resources for your own teaching context.
I have always been motivated by the power of language to amplify the beauty of our world. On my personal blog, you can peruse essays that I began writing when I moved overseas to assist the archivist at the Bahá'í World Center. The Bahá'í community's efforts to work toward our vision of a just, united world form the focus of my articles for several outlets.
In academic venues, I have published my research on immigration, religion, and the teaching of writing. My publications on writing pedagogy include:
I also write regularly for the CITL blog; you can check out all my posts. Thanks again for stopping by; I hope to hear from you soon!
