In this workshop designed for instructors in any discipline, we will explore specific classroom strategies and teaching behaviors that increase student success. From forming teams, managing discussions, and selecting course examples, research on teaching and learning highlights the importance of an explicitly inclusive classroom climate for student learning. This includes the value of learning collaboratively with peers and the benefits of intentionally connecting course content to students’ life experience and goals for the future.

Visit the CITL over the noon hour and learn about new or improved digital tools available to faculty at Indiana University. Lunch will be provided for those who register in advance. IU eTexts are not simply digital copies of traditional textbooks. They are multiple forms of digital learning materials, delivered directly to students before the first day of class, and integrated into the Canvas class page. Stand-alone texts are presented on the Unizin Engage e-reading platform, a tool designed to improve learning and teaching by promoting student and instructor engagement in the text.

Teaching Online: Creating Accessible Online Documents

Whether you teach a fully-online course or just post documents online, you are required to make all documents accessible to students who have impaired vision. This workshop will demonstrate how someone with impaired vision “reads” an online document, show you how to determine whether a document is accessible, and walk you through the process of creating accessible Word documents and PDFs. After completing the workshop, you’ll be able to use readily-available tools to assess and improve document accessibility. You’ll also be able to follow best practices that will save you time and effort.

Solstice is a wireless display option available in a growing number of classrooms and conference rooms at Indiana University. In a room with a Solstice-enabled display, you can wirelessly connect your laptop or mobile device to the room's display to share photos, videos, or your entire desktop. Any number of users can connect to, share, and control the content on the room's display. Come learn how to use Solstice as well as gain ideas on how to leverage it as a powerful collaboration tool.
